Danish Premiere of Meat the Truth
The Climate Movement in Aarhus, Denmark plans to draw attention to the fact that 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by livestock production by organizing the Danish premiere screening of Meat the Truth. This documentary forms an erratum to Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”. It will be screened at the East of Eden Cinema on 23rd February 2009, 18:50-21:10.
This Danish organization realizes that it is high time to focus on one of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions : meat production. No politicians in Denmark today have been courageous enough to address this important issue. The Climate Movement in Aarhus has chosen to focus on this crucial area, because if we do not reduce our meat consumption, we will not be able to avoid a climate crisis: it simply a matter of survival.
The Climate Movement in Aarhus have thus organized the Danish film premiere of Meat the Truth on 23rd February 2009. The event is free and participants can enjoy, among other things, a sustainable meal together and learn about the impact of food on the climate. The Climate Movement has focused on getting local and coming chefs in to make environmentally friendly food for tomorrow’s requirements. The event is sponsored by the sustainable Merkur bank.
The message of the need to reduce meat consumption has already been delivered to both the Climate and Energy Minister Connie Hedegaard and Environment Minister Troels Lund Poulsen in the form of a document and an oral presentation of the results from YouPEC (Youth Perspective on Consumption) Conference, in which Benjamin Bro-Jørgensen and Signe Skov Pedersen from the Climate Movement in Denmark – and Karen Soeters (Director, Nicolaas G. Pierson Foundation and producer of Meat the Truth) – participated along with 158 young people from across Europe. The YouPec conference produced the following key recommendations:
– Reduce meat consumption
– Prevent waste
– Reduce energy consumption
– Improve approaches to education for sustainability
